In 1997 Eberhard Schoener is in search for a libretto for
his third Short-Opera. The short story "Eine Rache (A
Revenge)" by Isabel Allende catches his attention. He
travels to San Francisco to meet with Isabel Allende. Isabel
Allende is having her own story told back to her into the
last detail. She has it long forgotten, she says. She likes
the idea to create a Short-Opera from it. At the dinner at
her house a lot of stories are told. She loves to listen.
During the following years they meet frequently and Eberhard
Schoener is composing a "Tango-Opera" based on Isabel
Allendes book.

He finds Willy deVille to sing the Tango. At that time he stays
in Switzerland and tries to convince Eberhard Schoener to set
the play in Mexico and not in Argentina - he never had sung
a Tango before! But then he sings "Yvonne" in his
own typical way, unforgettable. Whenever Willy deVille is staying
in Germany he is meeting with Eberhard Schoener. Some time there
will be a next project they will do together. |

The next Opera plays in Salvador di Bahia. Since the opening
event of the world championship in Stuttgart Eberhard has maintained
contact to his musicians from Brazil. Together with them he
is recording "Beleza Negra" (Mariella Santiago, Lazzo,
Matilda Charles, Wilson Cafe, Gaby and the Candomble Choir of
Salvador de Bahia). They all are part of it again as it is performed
as the live-event "Virtopera"over the Internet in
the year 2000. The continuity of his friendships between artists
represents the quality of these encounters. It is not just a
short term collaboration. Eberhard Schoener is developing styles
over many years which gets them very special textures by such
method. |
